Seminar in Association with SBI

A seminar on “Recent Trends in Banking” was held in association with State Bank of India in the Seminar Hall (Ground floor of the Department) on 21st August 2017 at 2.00 pm. The meeting was started with welcome speech by Mr. Vishnu Prakash, Assistant Professor of the department. Dr. Samkutty George, Head of the Department made the introductory remarks. He said that the banking sector is undergoing radical changes in all respects and the bank become more customer friendly and changes are evident in all spheres of the banking activities.

Mr. Gigi Koshy George, Asst. General Manager, State Bank of Travancore, explained the step by step transition of traditional banking to modern banking. He explained that the latest trends in modern banking system have revolutionized the Indian banking and financial sector.

He introduced the Digitization, Mobile Banking, Unified Payment Interface (UPI) etc. He also explained in detail about Electronic Payment Services, E Cheques, Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), Electronic Clearing Service (ECS),  Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) Point of Sale Terminal, Tele Banking, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). He also gave light to the emerging systems like Blockchain., Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robots etc. The participants queried about various issues that are likely to happen and raised questions about cyber security, phishing etc. He answered questions in detail and cleared all the doubts. A total of 186 participants including 6 teacher faculties from different colleges and students participated in the programme. The seminar came to a close by 4.10 pm after proposing vote of thanks by Solomon Paily, Assistant Professor in the Department.
