Collins Library

The college library is dedicated to the memory of Rev. Richard Collins, Principal of the College from 1855 to 1865. A dedicated scholar and a wise administrator, Rev. Collins started the College magazine at a time when no college in India could boast of such an annual. The Collins Library is a repository of several rare and very old books which are reference material for research scholars.
The Collins Library is divided into four sections viz,
- Reference and Periodical section
- General section
- PG section
- Archives section
The library functions according to the following timings: 8.30 am to 12.00 noon and 1.00 p.m. to 5 p.m. on all working days of the college and from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 pm to 4 pm on Saturdays. All members of the teaching staff, clerical staff, and students whose names are on the rolls of the college are members of the Collins Library and Reading Room.
Built up area of the library is 21,786 sq. ft. The current strength of materials comprises 76000 books, 63 Journals and 40 periodicals. Books are bar-coded and the issue and return of books are computerized. The average number of walk in’s around 500 per day. The N-LIST programme provides more than 3800 e-journals and more than 80,000 e-books.
