  • Report 2015-2016

    The inauguration of the activities of Women’s Studies Centre for the academic year 2015-2016 was done by the then Assistant Collector of Kottayam Ms. Divya S. Iyer. A workshop on Gender Sensitization was conducted by Dr. Piush Antony, the Social Policy Specialist of UNICEF, Lucknow for the first year students. A food and handicrafts festival titled Pax Fiesta was conducted  as part of the Christmas celebrations. The money thus earned from selling the food and handicraft items made by the students was donated to two charity organizations- Sneha Bhavan and Abhaya Bhavan. A workshop on Gender Empowerment was organized and Cinie Actress Parvathy T was the resource person for the male students. Simultaneously a self-defense class was organized for girls in association with an international organization ‘Action Breaks Silence’. On the Women’s Day 2016 a lucky girl and lucky teacher contest was conducted and a suggestion box was inaugurated as part of increasing the safety of girls and bridging gender disparity gaps on campus. Also, the career guidance session ‘Better Tomorrow for Outgoing Girls’ was organized. 

  • Report 2016-2017

    The activities of Women’s Studies Centre for the academic year 2016-2017 was inaugurated by K.P.A.C. Lalitha. A workshop on jewelry making was conducted by Silicon Fashion Designing School to empower girls in our college to empower themselves and to find a small income.

    As part of Women’s day celebration a short story writing competition was organized on February 11th 2017.  On March 8th, Women’s Day celebration was organized in collaboration with an organization called Aksharasthree Literary Woman which was attended by eminent writers like

    Sara Joseph and Paul Zachariah.

  • Report 2017-2018

    The activities of the Women’s Studies Centre during the year 2017-18 was inaugurated by Dr. Prameela Devi , member of Vanitha Commission .The WSC coordinated a mega Thiruvathira of 200 girls on the eve of Bicentenary Onam celebrations at the college ground.On 8th November a talk on ‘ Modern life style and Cancer ‘ was conducted  by famous Oncologist Dr VP Gangadharan and a hair donation camp was organized. In the month of December, a charity programme , ‘ Handful of rice ‘ was introduced and nearly 250 Kgs of rice was collected and donated to orphanages. A gender sensitization programme ‘ Making choices that change lives- Facilitating responsible living and gender sensitivity’ was conducted by Adv. Raji P Joy on Women’s day.

  • Report 2018-2019

    The activities of Womens Studies Centre during the year 2018 – 2019 was inaugurated by J Devika, Associate Professor, Centre For Development Studies on 3rd November. One day seminar on Sexuality and Gender Justice was organized by Indian Christian Womens Movement (ICWM) and Women’s Studies Centre. A three days Nature camp was conducted to Eravikulam National Park, Munnar from 03/10/2018 to 05/ 10 /2018 and nearly 30 students of WSC attended a nature education camp. A winter fest was organized by the members Women’s Studies Centre and the profit was donated to Swanthanam ,a charitable institution. One day State level workshop was organized by WSC in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi University and 1QAC, CMS College on 25th January 2019.Rt Rev. Jenny Andison , Bishop Suffragan, Diocese of Toronto, Canada inaugurated the function and DrLeelakumari P, Professor, Institute of Management in Government, Trivandrum led the session. An art and craft class were conducted by Sruthi S, one of our members of WSC. Golden Girl Contest was conducted in association with Malabar Gold and Times of India on 22nd February and four of girl students Johan from English Literature, Esther from Economics, Swathi from Home Science and Aleena from Communicative English won

    Rs 20000/- as cash prize. In March 8thWomens day was celebrated in association with Akshara three, the Literary Women. Smt. Toshma Biju Varghese, Managing Director delivered the Keynote address.  Five books were released and a painting exhibition was also conducted.

    National Webinar on Financial Independence; Core to being an Independent Women  

                                    WSC,has organized a National Webinar on Financial Independence; Core to being an Independent Women on 11th September 2020. The meeting was presided by Principal, Dr. Varghese C Joshua. Resource person of the webinar was Dr. Bhagyalakshmi Venkatesh, visiting faculty at IIM Raipur, IIM Vizag, IIM Indore & Corporate trainer. There were 120 participants for the proramme . 

       A cancer awareness programme

                                A cancer awareness programme was organized on 25th October 2020. The meeting was presided by Dr. Varghese C Joshua and the keynote speaker was Dr. VP Gangadharan Nair. The speaker discussed about the causes and measures to prevent cancer and mainly about breast cancer.177 persons including teachers, research scholars and students attended the programme 

       Intercollegiate Essay writing competition

                           WSC has organized an intercollegiate online essay writing competition as part of Women’s Day on the topic Covid kaalathe Penkaruth . Twenty-two students from various colleges all around Kerala participated in the competition 

    .1st Prize – Dhanya U V (University College, Palayam)

    2nd Prize – Neethu George (CMS College, Kottayam)

    3rd Prize –Suja Markose (Henry Baker College Melukavu )

    An invited talk on Developing Young Women as leaders and Community builders

                       WSC has conducted a talk on Developing Young Women as leaders and Community builders ON 9TH March 2021.. The Meeting was presided by Vice Principal, Dr. Mini Chacko. The talk was conducted by Dr. Agnes Thomas, Research Associate, Centre for learning Social Economy and University of Toronto, Executive Director, CCS, Toronto, Canada. There were 66 participants who attended the programme . The talk was about how to be a good leader and how to follow your dreams 

    Mom & Me Contest 

    Mom & Me Contest was conducted in connection with Mothers day.Thirty two contestants participated and Lakshmi R Kurup from 2nd MA History secured first prize. Jisha Justin from Family & Community Science won the second prize. 

    Report 2021-2022

    Webinar 

    A webinar was organized by WSC on the topic Gender Justice, Equity and Access in Campus on 29th October 2021. Prof. Mini Sukumar, General Secretary, Indian Association of Women’s Studies and Member, Kerala State Planning Board led the session. The talk was very effective and nearly 100 students participated the webinar. Principal Dr. Varghese C Joshua delivered the presidential address and Dr. Sumi Mary Thomas, Director, Women’s Studies centre welcomed the gathering 

    Research project 

    A joint research project entitled ‘A Research study to further gender equality in Higher Education in India ‘’ funded by British Council of India for a period of two years was started by Womens studies Centre, CMS College, Savithribhai Phule University and Brunel University UK.Dr. Sumi Mary Thomas and Prof Tilda Mary Daniel were the project Assistants from CMS College A team of four members visited to college for three days from 16th to 18th December 2021.

    One Day seminar 

    A seminar was organized on the topic Gender Disparity in Higher Education on 17th December 2021at Rev. Joseph Fenn Hall. Dr. Sneha Gole, Department of Women’s Studies, Savithri Bhai Phule University was the resource person. An interactive session was held after the talk.

    Women’s Day Celebration 

    One Day seminar and A Self Defense class was organized by the Centre in association with YWCA Kalathipady , in connection with Women’s Day on March 8th, 2022.Seminar was held on the topic Identify Yourself and be strong. Dr. Jessy L, Counselor and Head, Dept of Social Work, KE College, Mannanam was the resource person. A self-defense class was arranged for the first-year girl students. U Sreejith, Inspector of Police, Kottayam West handled the session. Dr. Sumi Mary Thomas, Director, Women’s Studies centre welcomed the gathering, Principal Varghese C Joshua delivered the presidential address and Sherly Skaria, President, YWCA delivered the vote of Thanks. A commemoration of our late Vice Principal, Prof. Cinny Rachel Mathew was also held. A sapling was planted on her memory at the College ground 

    Literary Workshop 

    A literary workshop was held for two days on 14th and 15th May 2022. P. Sathidevi, Chairperson, Vanitha Commission inaugurated the function. Dr. Sumi Mary Thomas, Director, Women’s Studies centre welcomed the gathering, Principal Varghese C Joshua delivered the presidential address. Ten resource persons led the sessions on different topics and nearly 150 participants attended the fest.Smt. Lathika Subash distributed the certificates.
